Humans of IYACA

“It was a great sunny day in Sweden what is very rare there... My friends and I from different countries like Turkey, Italy, Portugal and France wanted to enjoy the time in a brilliant place called Strandhem in Örkelljunga. We were there for an Erasmus+ project about nature and it was a gorgeous place matching the topic of our project perfectly. Therefore, we decided to do canoeing inside of the lake together with 6 people. We had 3 different canoes and canoed every inch of that lake. Later on, we wanted to cross the lake and discover what's there. We took the canoe out of the lake and started to walk inside the forest. We weren't wearing any shoes at all and we wore really colourful life jackets. From the point of view of the locals, we looked like aliens that came to occupy their village! We saw a really cute and nice wooden house and looked at that house through it’s window to understand what's inside and for sure we seemed like thieves! Later on, a neighbour started to stare at us and spoke with someone on the phone. We decided to go somewhere else and walked on the stony path. But the lady was still looking at us. We walked a bit and enjoyed the time there but I wanted to go to our project place already. The woman was still there! And she was so angry! She asked many questions to us and warned us that she will call the police! "Why are you here? This is a private place! You shouldn't be here! Never come back again!"
We were shocked a bit because we never heard that a territory in a forest or a lake can be private... We apologized and explained that we were only strangers that wanted to explore their country. She was still angry but we went to the lakeside, took our canoes and went back to our project place meanwhile laughing hard! It was a strange experience for us and we learnt that we need to respect other people's own space.:)”
